ISEH Awards

ISEH members have the opportunity to nominate a fellow ISEH member for one of three prestigious awards that acknowledge those dedicated to the advancement of scientific research:

 

Donald Metcalf Award

Established in 1999 in honor of Professor Donald Metcalf, "the father of hematopoietic cytokines," for his pioneering work on the control of blood cell formation, this award recognizes distinguished scientists in the field. The requirements of this award are:

  • Current member of ISEH
  • Outstanding contributions to one or more areas of interest to the Society
  • Active scientifically and able to have a featured lecture at the ISEH Annual Scientific Meeting.
  • Not a current member of the ISEH Executive Committee or Awards Committee.
  • Not a previous Metcalf awardee
  • Strong presentation skill
   

McCulloch & Till Award

Established in 2004 in honor of Professor Ernest McCulloch and Professor James Till, this award is intended to recognize early and mid-career scientists in the field of hematology and stem cells. The requirements for this award are:

  • Current Member of ISEH
  • Early and mid-career - within 15 years* of becoming independent investigator 
  • Active scientifically and able to have a featured lecture at the ISEH Annual Scientific Meeting.
  • Not a current member of the ISEH Executive Committee or Awards Committee.
  • Not a previous McCulloch & Till awardee

*Exceptions for parental leave or career breaks will be considered

   
 

Janet Rowley Award

Newly established for 2020 in honor of Professor Janet Rowley, a human geneticist and the first scientist to identify a chromosomal translocation as the cause of leukemia and other cancers, this award is intended to recognize early career scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the field.

  • Current Member of ISEH
  •  Maximum of 7 years* as independent group leader
  •  Active scientifically and able to have a featured lecture at the ISEH Annual Scientific Meeting
  •  Not a current member of the ISEH Executive Committee or Awards Committee
  •  Strong presentation skills

*Exceptions for parental leave or career breaks will be considered

Award Nominations

Nominations for the 2020 Donald Metcalf, McCulloch & Till, and Janet Rowley Award are now open through December 9, 2019!

 

Nominees must be a current member of ISEH and able to present a featured lecture at the annual meeting. Executive Board Members and Members of the Awards Committee may not be nominated. To check ISEH membership status, visit the Membership Directory (available to ISEH members) at http://www.iseh.org/search/.

 

The recipient of each award will be invited to speak at the 2020 ISEH Annual Scientific Meeting in New York, United States on 20-23 August 2020 and will receive an honorarium, complimentary registration, up to 5 nights of hotel, and a travel allowance. ISEH also requests that the nominee submit a manuscript related to their meeting presentation to Experimental Hematology by 18 September 2020.
